How do you put new string in a weed whacker? I bought my husband one several years ago and neither of us could get the string in when the original was used up. We paid a guy to load it for us and to give it a tune up so it would work well. He took it to his shop and informed us it was no good. When we asked for it back he claimed he had tossed it. Yeah, right. Won't do that again.
We got another one, a Poulon, (hope I spelled it right) this time. We can't load the string and the weeds are thriving around the fence line. We've asked several people if they would help us and they have all said they have a very hard time doing their own and are afraid of ruining ours so they prefer not to try. Is there a trick to it?

Hello barb.... Your close on the spelling as it is "Poulan" and trust me, if the old one was to old, it would be best to get rid of it. I serviced 2 cycle equipment a many a year ago and only if I had a chance to take a look at it. Now to the new one... I take it you got a manual with it and if so, look for "Line Replacement" which gives you detailed information on the "how to". In case you can't find the manual then use this link and a little search: Poulan I'll take you right to the User Manual: User ManualsFrom there your on your own now.... lol

It's funny how so many people have trouble with this, me included. For a long time I couldn't figure mine out. I need to go out to the garage and take a look at mine because I can't even tell you step one. I do know this about mine, you replace the whole little plastic holder with the string preloaded in it, each time. Oh wait...I'm remembering a little. On mine, and I've no clue what brand it is, you have to push in and then turn to get the plastic thing out. It's only like a half turn to get it out and a half turn to secure it back in, if I remember right. I promise, I'll run out to the garage today and take a closer look.

I always get my dad to do mine. Then one day he wasn't here so I had Bill kinda walk me through it. Why do they make it so hard??? Now if only I could get it started on my own...I think that they are made for men. Too hard for a woman. LOL

We did get a user's manual but it still doesn't go together the way they say it should. I was really hoping there was a trick to doing it. Our string didn't come pre-loaded unfortunately.

Hello misty.... In case yours ever goes on the "blink" then check this out: light 6.5-poundand that is one lightweight string trimmer. Thanks, but I can't afford to replace things. Due to his in juries, Bill can't work & I can't either since I'm his caregiver. I do work as crossing guard & he gets disability......it pays the bills but anything extra I'm saving to try to get our daughter a decent Christmas gift. I don't think she wants a weed whacker..ROFL!
