I am taking a break from painting the windows and trim in my guest bedroom getting it ready for my Mom to move in. Currently she is staying downstairs.
Nothing is ever a easy project. When people slap on paint they let it run down and collect at the bottom of the frame which leaves the next guy to scrape and sand to try to get it relatively smooth. I'm typically a perfectionist but since I am in a hurry to move her in I am gritting my teeth and will not just strip all the window frames and start from scratch.
And I said nothing is just an easy project. I am looking at the window and realized while this house was empty some punk kids took their bee-bee guns and shot little holes in the glass. I found the bee-bee's. So now I need to replace the glass in both the window and storm window.
In addition I had went through the whole house and replaced all the screens. I have 33 or so windows in this house and I got to them all but three and wouldn't you know this happens to be the window I didn't get to. So now I have to drag out my screen tools.
So having to replace the glass and the screen has brought my painting of the trim to a screeching halt. Now I have to remove the window. I don't look forward to that.
And here I thought I'd have the trim freshed up in a flash. Ha, ha, ha.

Do you know that tape they sell to put around the trim so you don't splash paint on it?? Well now they make that tape in pre-cut sections for wall sockets & light switches...talk about convenient!

They are cool but I'm not using them this time. I'll just use a razor to get off and splished paint.

Speaking of paint[ing], I'm still impressed with how much I still like the paint job I did in our kitchen several years ago. The walls are a 'peppermint green' and the trim is a ''butterscotch orange'. Before I painted it I was thinking either I'll love it or I'll hate it. I Hate~Hate~Hate painting walls white So whenever I can go with a better color I will.

You should post pictures. Your color choices were daring! LOL I hate white walls too. But guess what, I still have white walls in the living room. I don't want to paint because the crown molding looks like it has 50 coats of paint on it and I'm not sure what I'm going to do about it so I've been stalling on painting. That crown molding looks awful but no one else seems to notice - or so they say- when I tell them my reason for not painting so maybe I'm just too picky. But as far as I'm concerned either the molding needs to be stripped in place, stripped after pulling it off or just replaced all together and doing any of those is bound to mess up any paint job. My little sis, "the decorator" is always nagging me about painting as she thinks it could be such a pretty room. She thinks I should just paint it regardless of the molding. Anyway, the more I think about peppermint green and butterscotch together the more I like it.

What color is the crown molding JJ? You could always just put a light coat of the same color on it to freshen it up and save the stripping for later.
Nigel, I would love to see pics of your kitchen also. I hate white walls and never paint a wall white but I'm a coward when it comes to a dark color on my trim. I always opt for white so I'd love to see how yours turned out. It may just give my the courage to try colored trim myself.

Barb, they are painted kind of a tan. But it looks like someone glued sand on it and then painted it. Each little imperfection has become hugh imperfections due to the layers and layers of paint. Actually whoever painted that the last time - a fairly fresh coat of paint - didn't even care they painted the wall too. It looks bad, I don't care what anyone says. I'm sort of like you Barb, I'm chicken to paint my trim any color. The most daring I ever got was painting the trim antique white.

. The most daring I ever got was painting the trim antique white. Whoa ! Antique White, did it make it look 'older' - Hee.hee. When I went to paint my sisters condo I picked up a 30 gallon bucket of 'canvas white' paint and guess what, it wasn't white it was like a real light tan. Fortunately my sis liked it and it was just enough for her condo and I even painted the ceilings too.

Thirty gallons? That seems like an awful big bucket. Anyway, you were very lucky your sis liked the paint. You have no idea how many times I have bought paint and decided I hated the color once on the walls. I need to get rid of them. We have a "paint" exchange event every year where I live. I need to find out when/where that will be held and get rid of some of those cans.

You know what's funny....I lived in apartments or rentals most of my life. Of course all the walls are stark white. When I bought my house I was so excited to finally be able to use some color on my walls so I picked out a paint color I thought would be nice. It turned out to be barely a little different then white. So much for my bold statement I was going to make.
