When I was looking for elegant curtains for my dining room I had a heck of a time finding something I liked in the "curtain fabric" area. So I went into the bridal area and found exactly what I wanted. I figure why not? They don't get dirty so you have to wash them often and you just run them to the dry cleaner every year or so.
And they look fabulous!

I have made curtains and drapes both out of bed sheets. You can find so many different patterns and colors that you can do almost anything with them. I discovered a long time ago that the stores have sales on really high quality sheets often so I can usually find whatever I need for very little cost.
One year I made my daughter a set of victorian style drapes for her room. The turned out gorgeous and we put little velvet Christmas bows on the valance and the tie backs. We switched them out for gold bows at Christmas. If I can find a picture of them, I'll post it. Unfortunately, we don't take many pics in the kid's rooms so its very unlikely that I have any.

That sound so pretty Barb! I hope you can find some pictures. I too have used sheets for curtains. It just made sense at the time when $$'s weren't aplenty. You can get them relatively cheap, they already have hems in them and if you are very lucky they will be the right length so there really is no sewing if you want a simple gathered curtain. And plus they will match the actual sheets you have on the bed.

and they are so wide that you can do all kinds of things with them and not have to piece fabric together to make it wide enough.

Oh, what wonderful ideas! I hope you ladies come across some pictures of your curtains. Id love to see them.
I make my own curtains, but Im not so good at it. I usually just do a simple valance over my blinds, dosent get much easier than that. LOL But I want something new, and I enjoy making my own. Mostly to save the money.
