My brother wants to come down this month to install the wheel-chair ramp and take out the window to install the door. I had a door in my garage that went to the backdoor (I replaced it with a new door) but it is in good shape but had layers and layers of paint on it. Soooo, I have been working on stripping it instead of my Mom's furniture. Well, to get it in the shade to work on it was an ordeal. I'm a whimpy girl and carrying that solid HEAVY wood door even one step just about did me in. And getting it up on the - well lets just say it was I miracle I was able to do it. And I didn't hurt my back or anything. But I swear that door weighs 60 lbs and is really awkward to carry. So this morning in the wee hours I wake up to hear thunder and pouring rain. So I run outside bare-footed and in my PJ's to try to tip the door off the saw horse so it would be under the of the house but since I have stripper on it it is was very slippery and felt ten times heavier than before. I finally did tip it off but it landed with a thud - thank goodness the glass in it didn't break. Now I have to pray the door doesn't warp because all that hard work on the one side of the door will then be for nothing. Waaaaa.

Since its an outside door, as long as its tipped on its side so the water isn't pooling on it, it shouldn't warp. I know, stripping the paint off made it more vulnerable but I do think it will be ok. I've seen doors that have aged so much the paint is mostly gone and they still work.

Luckily the side that got the most rain was the side that still has a couple layers of paint on it still. And I did lay it on the side. Keeping my fingers crossed.

If the door is an old door it is probably very dry and shouldn't have any moisture in it to allow it to warp? Crack maybe, warp no?

Argh....It happened again. I can't seem to find the time to do the last of the stripping on that door and last night another big ole thunderstorm rolled so there I was again tipping the dumb door on it's side in the middle of the night but this time I couldn't manage to tip it away from me and could only get a grip on it to tip it toward me and it dumped water all up and down my P.J.'s I was a dripping mess when I was done. Oh boy...procrastinating sure does put me in a pickle sometimes. LOL

Don't you have any plastic tarps you could cover it with you so wouldn't have to be running around in the rain getting soaked? My hubby always has a couple of those big blue tarps you can get at Lowes or Home Depot.

Why not leave it tipped on its side until you get around to working on it?

I did have plastic the other time to cover it but I took them off so the door could dry out and folded them and put them in the garage and then promptly forgot about it.
And I did leave it tipped on it's side until I can get to it and will cover it tonight.
What a dope I am. LOL

I do that all the time. I usually go to do something and get sidetracked and then forget what I went there to do in the first place.
