I pulled a bookshelf away from the wall and it was covered in MOLD! So I have cleaned the wall with bleach and I am ready to repaint. I bought a gallon of primer that says it is for basements. I want to paint it another color though. Can I use regular paint on cinder block?

Beckies,
I painted my cinder block walls and I know I put a primer sealer for basement cement walls on first but for the life of me I can't remember if I topped it with anything. I don't think I did as they are just white.
I did a search on Google and no luck finding out what you can put on top of that so your best bet is to just talk to the place you bought the primer and ask them. I'm sure you can but it may be important you have a certain type of colored paint for cement.
I sure wish I had a definitive answer for you but I don't. It was never anything I looked into that much as I will some day be putting drywall up in the laundry room. The other area I just don't care about as it is just storage and the main big room I have finished with drywall.
Do you have any idea where the moisture is coming from? I know basements just tend to be damp but it has to be pretty wet to produce mold. Long term, that paint may not stay put if there is constant moisture.
Good luck and sorry I wasn't able to help you.

You all do it the hard way.Me? I just spray off the walls, and paint it with regular pain. I'm not using it for a rec room or anything. It wants to flood every couple years. Did you get it the way you liked?

I never have been a fan of spray painting. I like to use a brush to get into crevices and to really work in the paint and that was especially true on cinder block. It is so porous and it took a ton of paint. Besides, I'd probably end up spraying it where I didn't want it. lol.
But hey, if it works for you then that's great.

Typically, an unfinished basement floor is made of concrete. While concrete is a practical material for a house's foundation, it isn't a very pretty surface to look at. Fortunately, most epoxy paints work well on concrete, and you can transform a gray basement floor into a colorful focal point. To get the best results, however, you must prep the floor properly before you paint. Good prep work leads to an even, durable finish.
