I saw on a home show long ago, someone made a glass block kitchen Island & it was beautiful! I'd love to find out how its done, how much it would cost, etc. Anyone know anything about it?

I checked out Home Depot and they have the plain (nothing fancy) glass block - 10 8"X8" for $47.38. As far as step by step instructions I haven't a clue but I found a pretty picture of a glass island: www.askthebuilder.com/395_Glass_and_Acrylic_Blocks_Do_Many_Things.shtml(Scroll down to see it) Hopefully someone else may have some idea how to go about building it.

I agree, I love it too. It would especially look nice with the lighting behind it and all the other lights out in the kitchen. That would be a very striking focal point. Sort of like a fireplace.

Can't you just see it during Christmas with multi colored lites set to switch colors every so often?

That would be awesome, Barb! On my long list of things to do I have to install a window or something where there is a old rusted metal door that was used for a coal shute way back when. I had been thinking, since the opening it is such an odd size and would need a custom made window, I might use glass block. But the block is a little pricey too so not sure yet.
