I just wanted to tell my little experience with a well respected plumbing company in my town and pretty much across the U.S. Every so often I have a plumber come roto the drain line that goes from my house to the street because my washer is the first to forewarn me it needs cleaning as the water starts backing up when the washer starts the spinning cycle.
So in comes some fairly young new guys to do the work. I explained the situation and they tried to tell me that it was the way my drain is situated. I told them, no it was not and I just want them to roto that line as far as they can go to the street. They were very stubborn and I finally said, "Would you just humor me and do it". So they did, and it helped but it still wasn't draining as well as I'd like. I asked them to do it again but they were still sticking to their guns that it was the washer drain pipe and continued to say that they only need to roto once and that clears everything out that can be cleared. I had to be insistent and finally they grudgingly did it again. And guess what! My washer was draining perfectly.
A couple years later when I needed it roto'd again, I got called a different well know plumbing company and the older guy that came out said that back when my house was built they probably pretty much installed the pipe flat or level under my basement floor so the water just sits there along with food from the garbage disposal, etc. He said I'll likely have to have this done every three years or so, as I had been. He also warned me to avoid using my garbage disposal as much as possible.
Not good news, but just wanted to say.... some plumbers don't know what the heck they are talking about.
