I am excited to be here. My name is Amy and I am 27 years old. I have been married for almost four years and we are currently trying to conceive, or TTC.
This summer I am planning on converting either the back yard or one of the side yards into a serenity paradise. I just don't know where or how to get started. I hope I can get help here.
Once I do become pregnant, I am planning to start making up the nursery. I want to make a springtime pink theme for a girl or a summertime blue theme for a boy. Again, I wouldn't know where to start or where to find things at. I hope to find help here. Plus my husband wants to do some re-modeling around the house.
Like I said, I am so excited to find this community.

Welcome! So nice to have you here.
You may or may not have noticed activity here on Shack to Showcase has been very slow and it is all my fault. I neglected this site for a better part of 2009 and just now have gotten back to taking care of this place. So as far as a community, I'm afraid we are lacking.
A serenity garden sounds fantastic. Are you thinking of a Zen-like place, or just a place to sit, lay, meditate, relax? What do you picture when you think of a serenity garden? Are there lots of fragrant flowers or just a hidden-type spot you can be in? I guess everyones idea of serenity are different so thats why I'm asking some questions.
My previous home I had a beautiful garden but when I moved to my current home the backyard was a neglected jungle and it still needs help desperately but most of my attention (& $$) the past couple years has been indoors and not out. It was just this fall that I started working on my outdoor space.
And just so you know, I'm not an expert in gardening but I will share with you what I do know. I had a sister who was an expert so I did learn a lot from her and am slowly getting my garden center started here on this site.
But you've come to the right place for all your remodeling and decorating needs. I most certainly will do my best to answer any questions and I look forward to seeing the progress you make toward your finished nursery and remodeling.
I wish you much success on conceiving. I can think of nothing funner than decorating a nursery and welcoming a bundle of joy into this world.
Again, so nice to have you here.

I hate bees, so i won't have flowers. I think it would most likely be a rock garden with bushes and a small pond with a waterfall running into it. Maybe a seperate fountain near a smallish gazebo. I want to have a gate before the garden and a rock walkway leading around a small path and gravel on the sides with the bushes, fountain and pond in it. This would be leading to the gazebo. Maybe even a bird feeder to attract a few birds.
I am looking forward to having a baby. I figured I'd make a girls nursery be a springtime theme and a boys nursery as a summertime theme.

That sounds fabulous and it sounds like you really don't need help on the design. The way you describe what you want, I can invision.
I have read a lot about making a pond and waterfall but have never actually done it. I have also watched shows on t.v. but watching and doing is two different things. The one word of advice I can give you at this point is if you get instructions on how to do something don't skip doing any steps as you'll usually always regret it in the end. (This is from my personal experience)
If you have any questions just ask and if I don't have the answer I'll help you find the answer.
The Spring and Summer themes sound great. Are you an artist? I ask, not that it is important as you can get easy to use templates for making certain pictures but rather I'm curious if you'd be doing any wall art freehand.
Anyway, glad to see you popped back in.

I can paint. As for the art, I can only try, right? I might do what my friend did when she decorated the church nursery. She used a projector with a template pointing on the wall. She was able to trace. It looked nice. Or I could just buy wallpaper and clings and borders. Either way.
My mom and I talked it over and I think I may have changed some things. I may not use the gate. I wanted to keep the brick walkway and rocks. I wanted to have a fountain and a few rocks with bushes. I want to keep the gazebo. The main difference is that I won't have a pond. I want to build a waterfall onto the pool. My main concern is the price. I will pop over to the outdoor section and post my help questions there. Thanks for talking with me.
