Tell me if I'm missing something here. Maybe I'm not the brightest light bulb or maybe this person isn't the brightest light bulb.
Just to set the stage: I read an article on the 10 dumb mistakes people make (finacially). Buying a brand new car was one of the mistakes the author of the article mentioned. I went on to read the Yahoo commentary from people who also read the article. Many were saying they'd always buy a new car and listed the reasons why. Here is one gals response.
"Not having a relative or friend who can repair or know reputable auto repair services, I buy a reasonable new car at the end of the year to have the repair warranties. Being female, and single, this method has saved me from being stranded several times."
How does she know the newer car saved her from being stranded? Did she drive through a big snow drift across the road with her "newer" car and say to herself, "Thank God I have this newer car because I could have been stranded in that snow drift". How does that work when you actually never got stranded yet you know you were "saved" from being stranded.
Someone please enlighten me.

She is assuming that every repair person she could possibly find is a crook so routine maintenance is ignored. Since she probably never even gets her oil changed or air pressure checked, she most like has saved herself major problems with the old car. I sure wouldn't want to be the person who buys her year old car and has to deal with the mess she made of it.

Hey Barb! Wow, we are both on the site in the same day!
I forgot about this particular rant but I do agree, you just don't know if your car repair people are being honest or not. If you know nothing about cars you just have to trust them.
I still can't wrap my brain around how she knows having a new car has saved her from being stranded several times.
Happy to see you popped in, Barb. I'm actually taking a look at some of my stuff on here trying to decide if I want to follow through and do all the work to get things ready for the V5 upgrade ProBoards is doing. Meaning, all of my non-forum pages would need to be redone. Do I want to do all that work or just say bye bye to this site. I'm starting to think there isn't really anything much worth saving and that you can't find info for on many other sites. Maybe I'll do a couple pages and see how much time I had to spend on converting to web standards.
