July 12, 2011On the 12th we had a terrible storm come through with high winds. I could of swore we were in a tornado. During this fun time we lost power from 1:00 A.M. to 5:00 A. M. This is what happened in my alley-way about 15 feet from where I park. What remains of the tree that broke. The tree that came crashing down. (I heard it, it scared the heck out of me but it was too stormy out at the time to go see what happened.) If you look closely there is a garage under that tree. It was crushed like a V where the main trunk of the tree hit. The garage and tree both belong to my neighbor so at least it wasn't someone else's garage. July 24 2011:They finally have got around to removing the tree. Yesterday I went to see how the garage faired. Not so good.
ClickyLesson: Don't put off getting a professional Licensed arborist out to evaluate your trees and remove or prune any that are showing signs of stress, disease or possible hazards.

Hello Tumbleweed....
Lordy sakes, I missed this post by a mile, if not more! Hope everything to include yourself and Mom is okay, I think Mom is still there.... We just never know how lucky we are until it hits us!
I was going to say, nice pics, but this surely is not the right time for those words. Terrible is all I can say....
You take care...

Mom and I are fine. It wasn't my tree nor my garage but it was a little too close for comfort.
After this happened I have to admit I scrutinized the neighbors trees that are directly behind me. If they fell they would no doubt squish my car but I think they would not come in contact with my house. They may damage my garage though. Just eye-balling the height of those trees I think the end branches may come really close to my house. They are big old trees but look in good condition.
All I can say is I'm glad no one was stupid enough to be driving down the alley in that storm when that tree fell.
I'm lucky, all the trees in my yard are newly planted. Prior to my moving here there must of been two huge, huge trees that were cut down. I excavated the dirt just out of curiousity one time and they must have had 8 foot wide trunks. (Of course I was probably looking at the roots which would be spread so the trunk above ground probably wasn't that wide but they must of been big, big trees.
My whole neighborhood has very old trees.
