Everything You Need To Know About Posting Photos
We strive to keep this site loading quickly and therefore we request you keep your photo's to about 400 pixels at the widest. Height doesn't matter so much as long as the width is 400 pixels.
If you post a photo that is too large it may require our members to scroll to see the whole picture. If this is the case and you are on-line we will PM you to resize it. If you are offline we will either take the liberty to "save as" and resize it for you and send you a Private Message (PM) when we have done so.
- Personal Family Photo's should be posted anywhere in the Backyard Banter Board either in the chit chat sub-board or the photo sub-board. For your safety we have those boards for member viewing only.
- Photo's pertaining to a project you are working on can go anywhere in any board.
- Photo's that show finished projects or with both before and after photos can be posted anywhere in appropriate topics but we encourage you to showcase them in our Gallery.
Getting Started
If you don't have a on-line photo storage site there are several good sites out there that are free to use. Our preferred site is Photobucket but I have also included instructions for using Imagecave as well.

For Imagecave Click Here
Photobucket Instructions
These are instruction on how to post a click-able image. The image seen in the post will be thumbnail size and when clicked will produce the large picture so no need to resize your picture when using Photobucket.
Once you sign in to your Photobucket account you will need to create a album. (You don't have to do this - you can just upload if you plan on using it for a couple pictures)
If you created an album select it before uploading. Click on the Browse button and select the photos you want to upload - usually found in "My Pictures" on your computer and click up-load.
Click in the check box (See A)of the photo's you want to post and click Generate HTML and IMG Code" found at the bottom right of your screen (See B).
Click me
You now only need to left click anywhere in the code below IMG click-able thumbnails for message boards - recommended and it will automatically copy the code. You'll see a quick flash that says it copied it.
Click me
FOR GALLERY PHOTO'S USE THE TOP CODE IN THE EXAMPLE ABOVE. Ignore the remaining steps and be certain you do not include the "click-me" addition. Your code should look something like this: |
<center> |
Now that you have copied the code all you need to do is paste it in your post. Your code should look something like this:

Click me
You may want to let fellow members know that it is a click-able image by mentioning it in your post or you can type "click me" between the ending IMG and URL brackets like this:
[/IMG]Click me
Click preview just to make sure you did everything correctly and your picture should look something like this:
Click me
and then Post Reply.
Instructions for Imagecave
Once you log into your account you need to create a Album. Once you enter a name for your album and click Create Album. Next you will see that your album has been created successfully and to the right click where it says "Add pictures to this album". Then click on browse. (Most pictures are located in "My pictures" on your computer.) Once you have found the pictures you want to upload click "Upload Pictures".
Getting your picture ready for posting
Under your picture click modify. You will need to change the width to 400 pixels. DO NOT CHANGE THE HEIGHT as it will distort your picture. Let Imagecave adjust the height so it is proportionate.
Click Create a New Image.
Pasting your photo code into your post
Now all you have to do is highlight the EZcode that is to the right of your picture. Select Edit and then Copy or use the short cut key CTRL C on your keyboard. Now come to your post and select Edit and then Paste or use the shortcut key CTRL V on your keyboard.
Click preview located directly under your post to make sure it is showing up as a picture. If it is, click Post Reply.
If you have any problems or questions please feel free to PM me. I didn't know how to do any of this at one time too and had to ask for help so don't feel bad if you have to. It sounds like a lot of instructions and can be a bit overwhelming the first try.
Copyright
All Photo's are the property of the owner the moment they click the button on their camera. "Fair use laws" apply to very few and it is not O.K. to use any photo on this site for any purpose without permission from the owner. Please read the Fair Use Laws.
Neal Matthew wrote a very informative article for Pop Photo.com. Please read the whole article here<< before you are tempted to right click and save as. Thanks.
I also recommend anyone who has exceptionally well done and/or artistic photos to copyright their photos by following the instructions at Copyright.gov << per the article above so you have the added protected in court.
Please understand that protecting your photos from thieves is nearly impossible in cyber space and therefore by posting your photo's on Shack to Showcase you agree that Shack to Showcase, our server host, and the owner of this web-site will not be held responsible in any way if your photo's are stolen.
Side note: As the photo gallery grows and more pictures of artistic quality are added I will implement a little program that searches the web for any pilfered photos. It won't stop thieves but it may help us bust them.
I also considered making it so no one cannot right click but that is easily by-passed and would make running the site very difficult.
Water-marking your photo is a great idea but will only stop the common thief and not savvy thief.
The official government website on Copyright can be found here<<.
