Did you know that Burl wood is actually a deformed growth on the root, trunk or even the branches of a tree? The deformity is caused by infection, injury or it could be a potential bud for a branch gone hay-wire. What ever the initial problem the tree keeps growing around the deformity and the end results is some pretty spectacular wood! ;DI just love Burl. I'm starting a campaign to make it the official wood of OH {Just Kiddin'}. I had heard that it was formed by a virus . . . I guess that's a kind of infection, isn't it.

LOL, John. What is Ohio's state wood now? Hey, I bet there is Burl wood forming where my lawn mower guy keeps bashing my trees with the lawn mower.

I'm with you John I love burl wood too. I actually bought some antique furniture made of walnut burl wood. I just fell in love with it and had to have it. I've never spent that much money on furniture before...but I still love the burl wood furniture I bought. I posted pictures of the burl wood furniture in the photos section.

I'm new! I saw the Burl wood. How can I tell if a china cabinet is Burl Wood? I have a picture of it. I've been given 2 different ideas of what it is. One appraisal I paid for and she says it's 1910 and is Burl wood, the other person says it's a 1930's era depression piece.

Hi, welcome to the site. I'd believe the paid for appraisal. But I'd love for you to post a picture of it if you can but keep in mind I'm not an expert, however, burl wood is pretty unmistakenable.

I hope it helps you. www.ballurio.com/BG/BGWoodBank.shtml
