Garbage disposers can not do a good job of grinding fibrous and/or stringy waste such as carrots, pumpkin pulp, banana peels, celery, or poultry skins. So don't try it or you may end up with a clogged drain and have to use my previous tip.

Never put in potato peels either. I clogged mine (when I had one) with them twice, the second time trying to put just a little bit at a time down it. I did find that by putting bleach in it, letting it set for 15 minutes and then turning it on, I could unclog it. Since I didn't have a booklet for it I don't know if bleach is ok to use in them or not. It didn't seem to hurt it any but the backsplash ruined my favorite blouse.

I guess it would be a good idea to check with the manufacturer before using bleach.

WW (wonky wife) pluged up the garbage disposal with potato peels, and I meen filled it full and couldn't understand why it wasn't working. So I pulled everything out and 'xplained to her [well I tried anyways] that yu can't pack it full and expect it to work. She got all huffy and said the disposal was broken. Then two weeks later did the same thing all over again . . . What a Goofus ~
