Two of my bedrooms have odd closets that are just not practical. You open the closet door and on either side are long spaces. Mine have shelves deep in the back on either side and then your clothes have no other place to go but in front of those shelves.
I found a very creative way to make the shelves and your clothing easily accessible. And you'll love it! And the bonus is, it is cheap to do! Woo Hoo!
I promise to make get on a graphic program and draw up the plans so anyone who has such closets can utilize them completely. I just finished reconfiguring one of the closets yesterday and next is my closet.

I have a room shortage so I got an old dresser, painted it, and cut the legs down enough to fit into the closet. It holds clothes, shoes, collectibles, and craft things. Just thought I'd share a pic in case anyone else has the same problem.

I like what you did. It is nice to customize your closet for your own personal needs. I especially like the idea of using that old dresser. It looks great and keeps things organized.
BTW: Those instructions for how to make a deep closet work for you are coming, I promise. Now that I have the digital camera I can take shots of it so you all will know what I'm talking about.

I have only one closet, yes you read that right, just ONE, closet in my entire home. I cant do to much with it storage wise, as it also holds our hot water heater. I have one long rack that holds some of our clothes, and a shelf above for blankets. I am very interested in all your ideas for more space. I esp like the dresser idea! I think I will have to try that. Allthough...we have two sliding doors on it, so it will make it harder to assses the dresser. Maybe I can make it work by using a taller dresser, instead of a longer one?

Some of the older homes just did not have closets as people back then maybe had a Sunday suit and a couple of everyday outfits and that's it! I was lucky with this house that the closets they do have are really big, but they must of had other uses for them besides clothes because they sure made them odd.
What's fun is they have (and had, as I removed some of them) all of the old things like hat racks and just hooks for your clothes.
