Hi All,
My name is Amy. I am a niece to the creator of this website so I had to check it out. Congrats, you've done well!
So here's a little tidbit about me....I've been married for 4 years and my husband and I got initiated into the whole remodeling bit when we got enticed to move back to his home area in 2005 to move into the "family farm-house". This was a beautiful early 1900's 2-story house that not only had a lot of history but needed a lot of help. We started out by tearing out the plaster & lathe walls on the main floor. Let me tell you if you have never done that before and want a good work out....that is a job for you!! The house also had outdated wiring for the most part so my husband replaced most of the wiring himself with the help of an uncle who was certified. Next came putting up sheet rock. My husband and his brother did pretty much all of the ceilings, then my husband, my brother-in-law, sister-in-law, and my parents helped out with putting up walls. We started on taping and mudding and in a little over a year that is as far as we got since my husband & I have now moved into another house. Mind you we lived in this construction zone during this remodeling project which is a job in itself! My brother-in-law who is the farmer of the family is planning on moving into the farm house once it is a little more livable. He saw what we went through and decided to wait to move in.
The house we live in now is also a work in progress. The living room, dining room and our bedroom have been remodeled the rest of the house still has plaster walls that need to be remodeled. They are in good condition now but we hope soon to be able to afford to have them redone. My kitchen is the room I am dying to redo but again waiting for the right time with $$$ to do it. So if anyone has some ideas for cheap remodeling send them my way.
